VisionoPoly
A game about city development and comparative advantage. In VisionoPoly, you play a city leader competing to create the most successful and sustainable city on the board. The game was developed for Oliver Wyman to engage policymakers in exploring different routes to economic development, comparative advantage and the achievement of long-term national visions. You begin with wealth generated from natural resources and must decide how to invest it strategically. By acquiring and developing Ventures, implementing Policies and responding to Global Events, you gradually transform your city and create new sources of long-term value. The objective is to build a city capable of fulfilling its unique Vision while outperforming the other players. Progress is measured across five dimensions: Cost, Community, Creativity, Convenience and Caliber. These five Cs represent different sources of competitive advantage and determine which Ventures you can develop.During the game, players acquire and upgrade Ventures to generate Surplus. Must-Have Policies unlock the potential of specific Ventures, while Bonus Policies provide larger improvements to the city and can contribute additional victory points. Players must also manage fluctuating natural-resource prices, political and financial events, competition for valuable Ventures and the risk of hostile takeovers.Fulfilling your Vision gives you the opportunity to end the game, but it does not guarantee victory. Players must carefully consider when to trigger the end, as the winner is determined by the combined value of their Surplus, completed Vision, Policies and progress across the five Cs.VisionoPoly transforms complex concepts related to policymaking, investment and place-based economic development into an engaging strategic experience. The game enables participants to explore the relationship between public policy and private investment, experience the trade-offs between short-term income and long-term development, and discuss how cities and regions can build sustainable comparative advantages.
